CAREFREE, AZ (AZFamily) — Nestled next to Black Mountain, to the northeast of Phoenix, Stephanie Barbour made the Town of Carefree her home 11 years ago.
“My husband’s parents built a home here in the Boulders in 1992, I believe, and we fell in love with it,” she said.
It’s a town of only around 4,000 residents, where you see many of your neighbors at the grocery store or post office. Something Barbour learned soon after she moved to town full-time.
“I thought, okay, if I’m going to be a responsible Carefree resident, I need to start understanding the issues and start asking questions, doing my research, and making smart votes. And so, that’s when I started getting involved,” said Barbour.
