The Hawaii men’s basketball team scored its final nine points on free throws to hold on for a a 75-69 victory over UC Davis tonight in the Big West opener for both teams at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
A crowd of 2,574 saw the ’Bows find their groove at the line after struggling with their free-throw shooting earlier in the game. After UH missed 10 of its first 19 free throws, the Aggies resorted to a hack-a-’Bow strategy.
But Aaron Hunkin-Claytor, who entered hitting 30.8% of his free throws, made one of two from the line to boost the lead to 67-66.
He was intentionally fouled twice more but converted all four free throws to extend the ’Bows’ lead to 71-63.
Dre Bullock scored 15 points for the ’Bows, who improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big West.
