December's supermoon lit up the night sky across the world on Thursday, Dec. 4, marking the last full moon of 2025.
The world witnessed the December full moon at its peak around 6:14 p.m. ET.
This month's full moon was a supermoon, according to NASA, making it appear 30% brighter and up to 14% larger than usual. Supermoons happen when a new moon or a full moon is at its closest to Earth all month, according to NASA. The phenomenon is known as "perigee."
While the moon peaked on Dec. 4, it will still look bright and beautiful on Friday, Dec. 5, and look full for several days after it peaks.
December's full moon is known as the Cold Moon, and gets its name from the Mohawk tribe, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. It's also known as the Winter Maker Moon, the Little Spirit Moon, and the Long Night Moon.
