Health bosses and the team at Children North East have unveiled plans for two mental health "safe havens" for teenagers in the North East. The two new venues are to be opened at yet-to-be-announced venues in Newcastle and Gateshead .

The services will launch in early 2026 and offer support to those aged 13 to 18 - and their families. They will be open every day of the year and provide free face-to-face and remote appointments to youngsters struggling - with no need for a referral.

Young people themselves will now be involved in designing how they work.

This follows adult safe havens opening across in Northumberland and around Tyneside
