How do kids combat hate?
By leaning on adults who treat kindness as a superpower.
It’s our job to create kind kids.
But first, we need to become the kind of person we want them to become. Hate is a learned behavior. We need to unlearn our own hate.
Our job is to role model a basic love for all of humanity, to see the best in others and stop fearing the worst in them, even if they vote differently or dress differently or pray differently.
Our kids are watching. Watching what we do, what we say, what we read. They notice how we treat the server at the restaurant. The cashier in the parking booth. The TV set when our team fumbles the ball.
They hear the critical comments we make about “those” people. They are listening to us when we gossip, criticize and defend the indefensible.
