Ernest Doolin, a school crossing guard in Warren, received an award from the city after protecting a young student from harm.
The incident occurred Nov. 13 at 13 Mile and Hoover roads when a vehicle failed to yield while turning near a school crossing, according to city police. The vehicle approached a child who was already in the crosswalk when Doolin placed himself between it and the student.
“Mr. Doolin’s courage and selflessness reflect the highest ideals of public service,” said Warren Mayor Lori Stone. “His instinct to act — and to protect a child without regard for his own safety — is nothing short of heroic. Our city is grateful for his dedication to the safety of Warren’s children.”
