BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - The Blacksburg Police officer who hit and killed a pedestrian in traffic was using lights and siren and had a green light at the time of the crash, according to Virginia State Police.
The officer was responding to a call involving a fire.
The officer hit the 22-year-old pedestrian in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 3, 2025, according to Virginia State Police.
The victim, Spencer Davis Woodson Forsling of Blacksburg, was a graduate student at Virginia Tech.
The officer was driving a Ford Explorer at N. Main St. and Roanoke St. as Forsling was crossing the street; Forsling was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer was not injured, according to troopers.
