Mike Ginart, a lawyer whose civic work in St. Bernard Parish helped him win a seat on the Parish Council as the parish was in the midst of the massive cleanup after Hurricane Katrina, died Nov. 26 after an illness. He was 64.

Ginart, a former St. Bernard Parish schoolteacher who studied law at night at Loyola University in New Orleans, was a longtime recreational league sports coach, an avid Saints fan and religiously attended the first Friday of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival each year, his family said.

Ginart had been self-employed as a lawyer since 1989 and was a founding partner of the Tonry & Ginart law firm, which in later years evolved into Ginart & Associates Trial Attorneys. He was a past president of the St. Bernard Parish Bar Association and in 2021 was nominated by
