A Fairbanks grand jury indicted an Anchorage woman on Wednesday for one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder for the Nov. 22 shooting death of 37-year-old Ashlee Spann.

Alaska State Troopers arrested Brooklyn Michelle Whitman, 27, on Nov. 23 after she allegedly shot Spann, her ex-girlfriend, the previous evening.

According to Alaska Department of Law, Alaska State Troopers received a calls of a disturbance and a gun shot at Spann’s residence.

On arrival, troopers found Spann dead from an apparent gunshot wound. A visiting friend told troopers that Whitman had called Spann several times and made “multiple threatening statements.”

Whitman arrived at Spann’s residence on Nov. 22 and “began beating on the door, yelling for Spann to open it.”
