Albertans are skeptical the province’s legislation to allow physician to work in both private and public health-care systems will help wait times, with many concerned it will actually increase them, according to a December Leger poll.

Bill 11 — the Health Statutes Amendment Act — would allow some physicians — excluding family doctors — to work in both the public and private sector and proposes sweeping changes to a number of existing pieces of legislation that if passed would advance the province’s refocusing of the health-care system, make the province the “payor of last resort” for drug coverage and ensure Albertans have to renew health cards.
