Ifind it tragically laughable that U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth wants all air traffic controllers to receive a bonus that is being issued to those who worked without pay during the federal shutdown (“ Senator requests $10,000 bonuses be given to all air traffic controllers ,” Dec. 3). The purpose of a bonus, especially so in this instance, is to reward those who performed above and beyond their duties. If this happens, the bonuses become a mere participation trophy with dollar signs attached. She should be ashamed for even suggesting this. Perhaps I ask too much.
