Duke lost a Week 12 game to the Cavaliers (34-17 Nov. 15), but rallied with victories in Weeks 13 and 14 to finish the ACC season at 6-2. In their regular-season finale, the -2 Blue Devils scored a season-high 49 points in a 49-32 (over 54.5) conquest over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The league's second-leading team in scoring (34.6 average) has scored 32-plus points in 4 of its last 5 games.

Virginia lost its only conference game (the Cavaliers went 7-1 in ACC play) the week prior to its win over Duke (16-9 to Wake Forest). UVA followed up its win over the Devils with a (27-7, Under 53) triumph over the +7.5 Virginia Tech Hokies Nov. 29. The team's 10 wins have tied a single-season program record. The Wahoos also won 10 games in a 1989 ACC championship season.

UVA, which is No. 17 in the CFP rankings and needs a win to secure a playoff spot, has won the last 2 series meetings and is 9-1 in this series since 2015. UVA leads the all-time series 42-34.

Duke vs. Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

Virginia 34, Duke 31

Moneyline

No interest; PASS.

Against the spread

Virginia is the more well-rounded team, but the Duke offense is for real. The Devils hung 49 on a Wake Forest team which is much better on defense than one would expect. Duke is excellent in the red zone and is explosive in the pass game. Those factors cut into problem areas for the Cavaliers.

The first meeting obviously did not go well for the Blue Devils. But Duke should be able to exchange points with UVA on what figures to be a decent-weather evening in Charlotte. The Devils have been a strong second-half team, and sneaky late-cover is in the cards for this one.

TAKE DUKE +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Over is 4-1 across Duke's last 5 games.

Look for this matchup to tilt toward up-tempo play calls and more success through the air than on the ground. Both sides have filed 19 takeaways. They are tied for fourth in the ACC in that category, and some turnover exchange usually fuels short-field scoring opportunities.

Both offenses are solid in generating consistent momentum at the front of drives, and both defenses have scuffled in the red zone.

The OVER 57.5 (-115) has some value.
