SAN JOSE — A woman died after she was hit by a motorist while walking across Highway 101 early Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported at 1:16 a.m. in the northbound lanes south of the Santa Clara Street and Alum Rock Avenue offramp, the CHP stated in a news release.
An initial investigation determined that the woman was a pedestrian, and not associated with any nearby vehicle, when she was seen walking east across the 10-lane roadway before the driver of a 2017 Infiniti tried to swerve around her but ultimately hit her.
The woman died at the scene. Her name was not publicly released pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
