If coach Matt Campbell leaves Iowa State football for another job, the university likely would receive a payment from Campbell's new employer.
The Register's Eugene Rapay reported in August that if Campbell leaves and accepts a Division I college football coaching job elsewhere, Iowa State is entitled to a $2 million buyout.
Campbell is reportedly a top candidate to succeed James Franklin as Penn State's head coach. National football writers from ESPN, Yahoo and On3 reported midday Friday that Campbell and Penn State were in negotiations on a possible deal to make him the Nittany Lions coach.
