Eight new measles cases were reported by the South Carolina Department of Public Health on Dec. 5, bringing the total number of cases in the Upstate outbreak to 84.

The new cases bring the statewide total this year to 87, with all but a handful in Spartanburg County. According to DPH, there are currently 281 in quarantine and two in isolation.

Seven of the new cases are household members of known cases. The eighth case is still being investigated.

DPH has identified exposures at four new schools in Spartanburg County based on the new cases. Potentially exposed students, faculty and staff at the following schools were notified on Dec. 1: • Fairforest Elementary – 44 students in quarantine • Rainbow Lake Middle – 61 students in quarantine • Fairforest Middle – fewer than 5 students
