What was supposed to be an uneventful early signing day for Michigan’s football program turned into a fraught 48 hours.

The Wolverines entered Wednesday’s signing day with 28 commits, and nearly all were expected to sign as soon as the early window opened that morning.

But this is the name, image, likeness era of college football after all. Wednesday ended with three blue-chip commits unsigned, leading to speculation about their recruitments. On Thursday morning, Michigan was able to seal the deal with five-star running back Savion Hiter and keep him in the fold, but four-star receiver Zion Robinson and four-star edge Julian Walker flipped to other programs.
