Penn State doesn’t have a new coach just yet. But the Nittany Lions are closer to a deal than at any point since firing James Franklin in October.
Iowa State coach Matt Campbell and Penn State are in negotiation on a contract, a process that would formally conclude with a vote of approval from the school’s board of trustees committee on compensation.
On3 first reported that the two sides were working to finalize a deal.
The mood around the program, of course, is extra cautious given that the Lions were close to this point with BYU coach Kalani Sitake just days earlier. With Sitake and the Cougars set to play in Saturday’s Big 12 championship, however, he ultimately elected to stay at his alma mater, leaving Penn State scrambling to find another candidate.
