The cause of death of former Clemson basketball star Elden Campbell has been released.
Campbell, who still holds Clemson’s all-time scoring record and went on to play 15 seasons in the NBA , winning an NBA title with the Detroit Pistons, died Monday at age 57 while on a fishing trip in Florida. According to a member of his family and a Broward County (Fla.) official, Campbell drowned while out fishing.
TMZ was first to report Campbell's cause of death.
Thomas Steinkamp, chief of investigative services for Broward County, confirmed to multiple news outlets that Campbell died from drowning. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office ruled the death accidental after a medical emergency.
Campbell leaves behind a wife and four children. Campbell’s family shared a statement on Friday.
