Sir Keir Starmer has outlined both moral and economic justifications for alleviating child poverty as the government unveiled its strategy on the matter, predominantly influenced by the £3bn commitment to abolish the two-child benefit cap. On Friday the prime minister launched the Child Poverty Strategy during a visit to the Ely and Caerau Children’s Centre in Cardiff , along with First Minister Eluned Morgan, and met families and children intended to benefit from the interventions.

The long-awaited plan from campaigners arrives whilst approximately 4.5m children are living in poverty across the UK.
