LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - On Friday, a federal advisory committee voted to end the longstanding recommendation that all newborn babies receive the hepatitis B vaccine.
The vaccine has been recommended by the federal government for several decades and is widely considered safe and effective at preventing diseases.
The committee was spearheaded by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a long-time vaccine skeptic.
In response, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued a statement directly disagreeing with the federal committee’s recommendation, saying:
