The New York Yankees recently lost Devin Williams to a three-year deal with the New York Mets, and could be looking for relievers in free agency.
Williams was a two-time All-Star with the Milwaukee Brewers before a terrible season with the Yankees. He is a bounce-back candidate, and the Mets may suddenly be less inclined to pay Edwin Díaz. The Athletic's Jim Bowden wants to see the Yankees sign Díaz to a five-year, $88 million deal with escalators that could take the deal to $100 million.
"The Subway Series gets a new twist, as the New York teams swap closers," Bowden wrote of the Yankees signing Díaz. "The Yankees take a risk with a five-year deal for a reliever but the immediate boost to the back end of their bullpen will be significant."
Díaz was named the National League Reliever
