LEXINGTON, Ky. —
Kentucky Country Day made history Friday at Kroger Field in Lexington. The Bearcats beat Raceland 20-16 to win the Class A KHSAA football state championship.
Neither team scored in the first quarter, but after shaking off the nerves, KCD scored the lone touchdown through two quarters from both teams. Caden Long found the end zone from one yard out on a QB keeper.
KCD led 7-3 at the break.
Both teams more than doubled their scoring total in the second half.
Long completed a perfect 5 of 5 passes for 55 yards in the game, majority of which came on a third quarter catch by Miller Bates for a 32 yard gain, just one yard short of the end zone. Parker Rudolph punched in the score to give KCD an 11 point lead early in the third quarter, 14-3.
