Rogers may miss a federal deadline for bringing full 5G service to Toronto’s subway , according to a new TTC report obtained by CBC News . The document says the project is running behind schedule and points to issues inside the transit system as the main cause of the slowdown, not Rogers.

TTC staff say asbestos removal, limited overnight work windows and other maintenance priorities have reduced the time available for installing new cellular equipment. While Rogers has already activated 5G in many high traffic areas, progress in other tunnels has slipped.

Federal rules set in 2023 require carriers on the Rogers owned system to have voice, text and data service active in 80 percent of tunnels by December 2025. The TTC now expects to reach only about 70 percent coverage by the end of this
