The school zone along E 3rd Street for Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences (CSAS) will be extended eastward to Palmetto Street.
The City of Chattanooga's Department of Public Works made the announcement late this week.
Installation of new signage began on Friday, December 5, and the extended zone will officially go into effect on Monday, December 8.
Next week, crews will install pavement markings, depending on the weather.
The flashing lights will be relocated to the new position once they reconnect the electrical connection.
The City said the extended school zone will bring three key benefits:
" Improved Student and Pedestrian Safety: Lower speeds and extended boundaries reduce the likelihood of collisions and increase driver awareness during school hours.
