WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A man sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother will be sentenced again.

In October 2021 , Kyle Romey killed his mother, 67-year-old Denyce Briet, in their Goddard home.

A Sedgwick County district court judge imposed a life sentence with no opportunity for parole for more than 54 years.

The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday upheld Kyle Romey's premeditated murder conviction, but remanded his sentence.

The justices say the district court should not have included the prior three Kansas felonies and one Louisiana misdemeanor when calculating his criminal history score, and it remanded for resentencing with the correct score.
