Brooklyn Councilmember Chi Ossé is ending his bid to challenge Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader, according to a statement Friday.

“Exploring the possibility of this run was important. As committed, I will not be launching this campaign without the support of DSA, and so the exploration process is concluded,” Ossé wrote in a statement.

It comes after the city chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America said it would not back Osse’s run.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani had spoken to the group last month and encouraged them to pass on the primary challenge.

Ossé rejoined the DSA this summer after dropping his membership in 2020.
