AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Violent and property crime has dropped sharply across South Carolina for the fourth year in a row, with murder and aggravated assault hitting pre-pandemic levels.
Data reported to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division from participating law enforcement agencies shows the violent crime rate fell 8.4% from 2023 to 2024.
S.C. measles outbreak keeps soaring to nearly 85 cases
South Carolina health officials are reporting eight new measles cases since Tuesday in an ongoing outbreak.
That was the fourth consecutive yearly decrease and the lowest rate since 1995.
The murder rate per 10,000 people decreased by 15.8% from 2023 to 2024.
There were 413 murders in South Carolina in 2024, the lowest number since 2018 when 406 people were killed.
