ICE agents detained green card applicant Allan Dabrio Marrero last week at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan after h e missed a piece of mail from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) during a move.
His husband, Matthew Marrero, and their church family are trying to secure his release, arguing that he has no criminal history and was meticulous with his paperwork.
"The way the narrative has been spun to the general public is that they're going after the worst of the worst. And that is not true," Matthew Marrero told ABC 7. "My husband is a contributing member to society, is proud to want to be an American."
Newsweek reached out to the family via GoFundMe and to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) via email on Friday morning for comme nt.
