Fire Department responds to structure fire in 1300 block of Avenue K, one firefighter suffers minor injuries

The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Friday afternoon:

The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a report at 12:31 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 of a structure fire in the attic at 1313 Avenue K in Brownwood. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the residence.

Prior to arrival of the fire department , the occupant began extinguishment with a garden hose. Brownwood Fire Department personnel made entry and found a small amount of fire remaining in the attic. The fire was extinguished quickly, and crews began to ventilate the house.

The fire caused blown in attic insulation to ignite and extensive debris removal was done to prevent re-ignition.

The fire was accidental in nature caused by faulty ceiling fan wiring. The fire caused extensive damage to the attic and liv
