Following their two state championship bids at Aurora Sports Park last month, it came as no surprise that Broomfield and Holy Family softball led the BoCoPreps coverage area with CHSAA all-state nominations.
In Class 5A, Broomfield’s Ireland Heer — the CHSAA and Daily Camera player of the year — led the first team selections with her 18-1 record and 1.62 ERA. Her performance helped push the Eagles to a 17-7 victory in the state championship game. Kale Gilmore, naturally, won CHSAA’s coach of the year honors.
Lilly Smith (.515 batting average) also made her way onto first team for Broomfield, followed by Avery Gines (.435), Lauren Martinez (.500) and Kiley Wheaton (.409) on second team.
Fairview’s Julia Savage, who was ranked 29th in the nation with 12 home runs, also made first team.
