A new tourist attraction has rolled into Heritage Park, just in time for the holidays.
Heritage Park officials, Premier Danielle Smith and other members of the Alberta government cut the ribbon and boarded the park’s recently restored 1951 diesel-electric locomotive on Friday — a new attraction that park officials hope will spur visitation during the winter months.
The engine leads the Heritage Holiday Train, which the public will be able to ride throughout Heritage Park’s Once Upon a Christmas festival, which kicked off Friday and runs on weekends until Dec. 22.
But the park’s goal is to offer the train rides year-round, as part of a push to make Heritage Park a four-season destination. Currently, the park is open from spring until fall.
