PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Governing Board vote late Thursday night is sending shockwaves throughout the Phoenix Union High School District .

A major budget shortfall and declining enrollment led to the cutting of more than 160 non-teaching jobs .

This situation is being called a necessary evil by the board, but there’s a lot of frustration and even uproar over some of these cuts, especially the jobs that focus on school safety and performing arts that will soon be gone.

“This doesn’t make any sense,” said Michelle Delgado, a PXU assistant principal of student success .

“It’s either (the cutting of) or closing campuses,” said Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board President Ceyshe Napa during the meeting.
