Cathy Guisewite , 75, doesn’t mind seeing her mother in her face when she looks in the mirror these days. After all, she has her mom to thank for a lot of things — including encouraging her to create the wildly popular comic strip Cathy. The comic about a relatable woman struggling to balance work, dating, fashion and food celebrates 50 years this year. It launched three TV specials, more than 30 books and a veritable mountain of merchandise. But it all started with a lonely young executive and a pencil.
