Motorcyclists roared over Gaza's sand dunes Friday in a return to a pre-war tradition.

The bikers ripped over the rolling dunes, overlooking the ruins and displacement camps.

Before war broke out two years ago, young people once flocked to the dunes every Friday in the central Gaza town of Al Zahra to race.

Now, in the midst of a shaky ceasefire, Palestinians in the area are trying to return to the traditions of normal life.

Dozens of young men flew over sand dunes, spinning in circles and lifting the front wheel of their bikes in the air as their engines roared.

Motorbike racer Mahmoud Al-Sayyed said the races offer the only entertainment in Gaza:

”There's no other way for a person to entertain themselves except through this sport. There are no restaurants or cafes; the beach full of tents, and as you can see, we race through the destruction."

Israel's military operations have left much of the Gaza Strip in ruins, killing more than 70,000 Palestinians and displacing most of its 2 million residents.

The war started when Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages.
