KNOXVILLE, Tenn — According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Dalton Swanger's tracheal resection surgery has been scheduled for later this month.

Including the surgery Swanger underwent this week, he has undergone six surgeries since August, according to KCSO, and until his next surgery, he will continue undergoing dilation procedures to keep his airway open.

"He continues to show remarkable strength throughout this complex recovery process," KCSO said on Facebook .

Back in June, Swanger spent several days at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after being struck in the head by either a large rock or brick while responding to reports of gunshots near Stanley Road on June 22, the Knox County Sheriff's Office said.
