BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WTVM) - The Central Red Devils captured their third state championship with a 46-7 victory over Vestavia Hills in AHSAA Super 7 play at Protective Stadium Friday.
Vestavia Hills struck first when Julia Rose connected with Alexis Rubin for a touchdown, putting the Rebels ahead 7-0.
Central answered immediately as Mariah Harrison threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Amaya Brooks to tie the game 7-7.
The Red Devils took control from there. Harrison found Savannah Sevier for a touchdown to make it 14-7, then Brooks scored on a rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 27-7.
Harrison connected with Sevier again for another score before halftime as Central dominated the second quarter.
“I just really count my blessings,” said coach Mitchell Holt after the victory.
