WILLIAMSTON — As one of the few players with any varsity experience for the new-look Mason boys basketball team, Mason Dowdy knew he was going to have to shoulder a bigger load this winter.
The senior has shown he is ready for the moment in the opening week of the season while adjusting to playing on the wing instead of down low.
Dowdy capped a strong opening week of his senior season by scoring a game-high 20 points as the defending CAAC Red champion Bulldogs opened their league title defense with a 63-57 overtime victory over Williamston on Friday, Dec. 5.
"It definitely is a big role," Dowdy said. "Having 39 (points) the other night definitely put a target on my back, which kind of frustrated me a little bit at the beginning of the game. I found my rhythm a little bit once I started
