CINNCINNATI — Tre Carroll erupted for a career-high 30 points, powering Xavier past Cincinnati 79-74 on Saturday in the 93rd Crosstown Shootout, extending the Bearcats’ skid in the series’ road venue to 12 straight.

Carroll, a former FAU teammate of Cincinnati forward Baba Miller, took over in the second half. He scored Xavier’s first eight points in the third quarter and pushed the Musketeers (7-3) ahead 45-39 with a run of six straight at the 16-minute mark. By the time he slipped in a layup with 57 seconds left, he had carried Xavier through every major swing, shooting 14 of 23 with seven rebounds.

Cincinnati (6-3) kept countering behind Day Day Thomas, who scored 15 points and hit a pair of 3s to ignite a brief push back to 56-48. Jalen Celestine drilled a 3 to put the Bearcats up 68
