F or a president to get away for a vacation is no easy feat, even in the early 20th century. It may have been harder in some ways because the president needed to be protected and in communication with government officials if needed. He also couldn’t be too far away to return to Washington, D.C.
It could take days to make the proper arrangements. Sometimes, though, the chief executive just needed to get away, even if it was just for an afternoon.
