A Hilo attorney awaiting sentencing for being convicted in an affordable housing credits scam is now in federal custody after his bond was revoked.
U.S. District Chief Magistrate Judge Kenneth Mansfield on Thursday found probable cause that Paul Sulla engaged in the unauthorized practice of law while free on bond, after being ordered to cease practice by the Hawaii Supreme Court on July 29.
Mansfield ordered Sulla incarcerated without bail at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. Sulla was immediately taken into custody by U.S. Marshals.
In addition to finding Sulla practiced law while suspended from doing so, the court found “clear and convincing evidence that Mr. Sulla violated (a) release condition four times, which … required him to report any traffic stop to pretrial services.”
