Iam writing this to ask about high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane rules and enforcement. HOV lanes require a minimum of two occupants per vehicle during restricted hours. I acknowledge that certain vehicle types, including buses and emergency vehicles, are exempt. I further acknowledge the recent expiration of a federal code that ended exemptions for single- occupant electric vehicles.
Why are EVs no longer exempt, and why are the rules not enforced? As I drive in the lane next to the HOV lane, my unofficial study over many months of driving shows about 1 in 10 cars are in violation. I acknowledge that it is difficult to enforce the law, but that does not mean nothing should be done. This hurts all of us.
