LIHUE — Personnel from the Kauai Fire Department rescued an injured 65-year-old male Utah visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Thursday.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hiker shortly before 1:40 p.m.
Personnel with Lihue Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker near Hanakapiai Falls who had fallen approximately 10 feet, causing a 6-inch laceration to his head. Firefighters administered initial first aid on scene and applied a c-collar with c-spine precautions.
The hiker was extracted using a Stokes litter to the nearest landing zone, where he was then loaded into the helicopter and taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hike
