A snow forecast is predicting that various parts of the UK - including the North East - will be hit within days. A series of weather maps show snow arriving at midnight on December 17 with, in all, more than 40 hours of wintry weather in store.

The weather maps from WXCHARTS - a weather forecast model data viewer which is aided by Metdesk data - show snow affecting much of northern England in the early hours of December 18 after first covering areas of western Scotland, The Express reports . And Northumberland is being singled out as one of 16 affected counties.
