Drivers risk £300 fines - as police target driving law offenders in a "real-time" operation. The national police campaign hopes to crack down on uninsured driving.

The nationwide initiative, called Operation Drive Insured, saw police combine with the Motor Insurers' Bureau. The crackdown came in a bid to identify and remove uninsured vehicles from the roads.

Officers will be conducting targeted patrols in problem areas, using Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology and "real-time" insurance databases to detect offenders.
