TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan launched into an explosive rant slamming the BBC after the corporation took an elderly man with dementia to court for an unpaid TV licence bill. The 69-year-old man was convicted of the unpaid fee in the latest case of harsh justice from the Single Justice Procedure.
He wrote to the court to explain that he lives alone and had “messed up” with the bills and quickly fell into debt as his health declined. His daughter, a single mother, later stepped in as his power of attorney over his finances, but missed the TV licence bill. Despite the heartbreaking letter, a magistrate accepted the pensioner’s guilty plea and ordered him to pay £50 in costs and a £26 victim surcharge.
