College Football Playoff spots are on the line in the Big 12 championship game between No. 6 Texas Tech and No. 11 BYU.
Can the conference steal a bid to become a two-bid conference?
A win for the Red Raiders (No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings) would likely lock them into a top-four seed and first-round bye, while a win for the Cougars (No. 11 in the CFP rankings) would create some chaos for the 12-team field.
Texas Tech and BYU are set for a noon ET kickoff on Saturday, Dec. 6 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Saturday's contest is one of three rematches in Power Four conference championship games from the regular season. Behind a two-takeaway day from potential Heisman Trophy candidate Jacob Rodriguez, Texas Tech took the first meeting against BYU convincingly in Lubbock by the score of 29-7.
Texas Tech has been one of the top programs in the country for much of the season, and is one of the sport's great stories this year. At 11-1 on the year, Joey McGuire's squad is a tough team to scheme against, as the Red Raiders hold the third-best scoring offense and scoring defense in the country at 43.2 and 11.3 points per game, respectively.
If the Cougars can win Round 2 against the Red Raiders, it'd give Kalani Sitake's squad one of the five automatic CFP bids, which would move the Red Raiders down to an at-large bid and likely remove someone else from the field — (cough, cough, Notre Dame).

BYU trolls CFP outlook
The Big 12 championship game is crucial for BYU's CFP outlook, as a win would put the Cougars in the field. However, despite being 11-1 on the season and ranked for much of the season, it appears that BYU is not happy with its current CFP situation, as the Cougars posted a troll tweet on the athletic department's official X account.
Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark noted to reporters in Dallas that no Power Four team with an 11-1 record had ever finished outside the top 10 in the CFP rankings entering championship week until the committee ranked BYU 11th in the penultimate rankings.

Appearing on "College GameDay" for an on-the-field interview, Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez won a $250,000 donation from Pat McAfee to a military foundation of Rodriguez's choice for hitting a crossbar from roughly the 20-yard line.
Rodriguez's wife, of course, is a member of the U.S. Army, as she is a Black Hawk helicopter pilot.

What's at stake for Texas Tech in Big 12 championship game?
Texas Tech is playing for a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff in the Big 12 championship game against BYU. The Red Raiders were moved up to the No. 4 seed in the penultimate CFP top 25 rankings after then-No. 3 Texas A&M lost in Week 14.
A loss for Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game would create the question of whether the Red Raiders have a strong enough resume to keep a top-four seed or not.

Texas Tech vs BYU predictions
Here's a look at some predictions for Texas Tech vs. BYU from USA TODAY Sports' experts:
Matt Hayes, USA TODAY: Texas Tech 35, BYU 17
"The first game in early November should've been much worse for BYU, Texas Tech's struggles in the red zone preventing an uglier rout. But there's much more on the line now, and BYU has extra juice from coach Kalani Sitake turning down Penn State. It took Texas Tech about two quarters in November to adjust to BYU's physical lines of scrimmage, and if the Cougars can protect the ball, they'll get this game to the second half. Texas Tech QB Behren Morton wasn't completely healthy the last time the teams played, and has been nearly flawless since."
Paul Myerberg, USA TODAY: Texas Tech 30, BYU 7
"Look for Tech to take care of BYU by multiple touchdowns and enter the playoff ready to advance to the semifinals and even beyond. BYU is a physical, well-coached team that typically won't make the crucial mistakes that can mean the difference against elite competition. The Red Raiders are simply more talented, with difference-making talent at quarterback, the defensive line and the entire front seven."
Austin Curtright, USA TODAY Network: Texas Tech 31, BYU 10
"Quarterback Behren Morton wasn't quite himself against the Cougars the first time around this season, as he was returning from a multi-week injury. Still, Texas Tech's suffocating defense was too much for BYU and true freshman Bear Bachmeier to handle in the 29-7 loss. The Red Raiders are the most capable Big 12 team to cause some chaos in the College Football Playoff, and standout defenders Jacob Rodriguez and David Bailey lead the way in Texas Tech's first-ever Big 12 title."
