CLAY COUNTY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City-area bank teller is credited with saving a woman from losing thousands of dollars after noticing the signs of a scam.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office posted about the recent close call on Facebook, saying scammers have been “back at it” in the last few days.

Often, the department said, the scammers will try to convince people over the phone that they missed jury duty and need to pay a cash bond, or else they will be arrested. Often, the would-be victims are urged to pay by withdrawing cash from their bank accounts and depositing it into Bitcoin ATMs.
