BILLINGS — Librarian Mary Leichner drives about 500 miles in the Billings Public Library Bookmobile every two weeks.
From Custer to Broadview to Laurel and many places between, Leichner’s bi-weekly schedule is made up of about 34 stops, spanning across Yellowstone County. She’s part of a long line of librarians that have been delivering books and fostering connection throughout Billings and beyond for 75 years.
Leichner said she sees about 150 to 200 library patrons through the bookmobile every week. She travels to some of the most rural places in the county, and visits parks, schools and senior centers.
“We are their lifeline,” said Leichner. “They rely on us all the time. They come in and they are so gracious that we are here to serve them, because a lot of them won’t be able to come
