A major search operation is underway after two men were seen entering the River Hull last night following a brief police pursuit.

Humberside Police said officers had attempted to stop a vehicle with a defective rear light at around 8.30pm on Thursday. The car failed to stop and a “short pursuit” followed before it crashed into a wall on Charlotte Street.

The two men inside the vehicle are then believed to have entered the River Hull.

Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth, who is leading the operation, said: “Following reports of two men entering the water, a search was immediately launched to locate and identify them. We are extremely concerned for their welfare and are conducting extensive lines of enquiry in an attempt to identify and locate them.”
