Adam Scott benefited from a case of mistaken identity early in his career.

The Severance actor, 52, tells PEOPLE he was once confused for Australian pro golfer Adam Scott because of their shared name.

“A long time ago, like 20 years ago, I checked into a hotel in New York, and they thought the reservation was for the golfer, Adam Scott,” he says, recalling the unexpected mix-up. “I was not of note or a known person at all yet.”
